It sounds like a scary term, yet microdermabrasion is a procedure that Dr Jeremy Hunt specializes in.
Microdermabrasion delivers a steady powerful stream of fine diamond crystals to the skin. It showers or blasts the face with sterile micro-particles to abrade or rub off the very top skin layer, then vacuums the particles and dermabraded skin, with virtually no complications.
The treatment is noninvasive, produces minimal discomfort, requires no topical or local anaesthesia, and involves practically no recovery or downtime.
The procedure improves dull skin texture by gently resurfacing the superficial skin layers, softens and modifies fine “expression” lines typically seen on the forehead and around the mouth, and polishes and reduces fine lines on the cheeks generally caused by aging and sun damage. It can also improve pigment changes or skin discolouration, contract enlarged pores, exfoliates and suctions out clogged pores in cases of acne, and smoothes out the margins of acne and burn scars.
Patient satisfaction with micro-dermabrasion has been positive, with patients enjoying the treatment, and being pleased with the results. In most cases, a minimum of five initial treatment visits, seven to ten days apart, are required to achieve optimal results. Further, ongoing maintenance sessions will be needed.
The technique can be used as an adjunctive therapy with other skin renewal modalities, like Retin-A therapy or chemical peels.
